Uncovering further evidence and another message to him, Batman realizes Riddler has further plans and suspects he may have deduced his identity. Whilst investigating Riddler's apartment, Batman and the GCPD learn he is Edward Nashton, a forensic accountant who'd uncovered the conspiracy whilst investigating the Renewal Corporations' accounts. As Falcone is taken into police custody, he is assassinated by the Riddler, who is arrested shortly afterwards. Whilst Selina decides to kill Falcone in revenge, Batman has Gordon leak the recording to the press and infiltrates the Iceberg Lounge to stop her. From a recording sent to Selina's phone, they also learn that Falcone was the informant on the Maroni case and had murdered Annika due to Mitchell passing the information to her. The corrupt officer reveals that Falcone had been using funds for the Gotham Renewal Program set up by Thomas Wayne to fund his activities, using its charitable status to operate undetected. Summoned to the lit Batsignal, Batman and Gordon find Catwoman interrogating a captured Kenzie, a cop under Falcone's payroll. Alfred also confirms this, though reveals that his father had actually objected to the murder and threatened to blow the whistle on Falcone's operations. When Bruce confronts Falcone on the news, he confirms the information and claims that Maroni had killed them for fear of having his family in his pocket. Riddler leaks information that Thomas Wayne had once hired Falcone to cover up information about Martha Wayne's history with mental health, leading to the murder of a journalist. Whilst he recovers, Batman meets with Selina, who reveals herself to be Falcone's illegitimate daughter and asks for his help in capturing Annika's killer. Bruce is sent an explosive letter intercepted by Alfred, who is nearly killed examining it. Their investigations reveal that Riddler is a former resident with a grudge against the Wayne family. Penguin and his men soon discover them, with Batman giving chase to the mobster whilst Kyle escapes.Īs they interrogate Penguin, Batman and Gordon learn that they have misinterpreted one of Riddler's clues, discovering links to the abandoned Gotham Orphanage. During it, Selina attempts to steal from Penguin and his men, discovering Annika's body as Batman confronts her. Tracking him to the Eastside Deport, the discover that Falcone has taken over the development of the narcotic Drops, previously run by Maroni. Despite Batman's help, Colson refuses to identify the informant, leading to his death.įrom the evidence they've gathered, Batman and Gordon realize that Riddler is targeting officials linked with the informant and suspect Penguin to be them. With Batman and the GCPD both responding, Riddler livestreams the event and the DA to solve three riddles, revealing his corruption and identifying the informant. However, the event is interrupted by Colson, who is forced to crash it with his car by Riddler. The following day, Bruce attends Mitchell's funeral to see if Riddler is in attendance, during which he encounters both Falcone and Mitchell's rival Bella Reál. Meanwhile, Colson is captured by Riddler, who rigs him with an explosive collar. After she encounters Carmine Falcone, Selina cuts off communication with Batman after he challenges her relationship with the mobster. Meeting District Attorney Gil Colson, they learn that both Mitchell and Savage were connected to the bust of drug baron Sal Maroni, during which they used a high-level informant to get information for the arrest. Learning that both Savage and Mitchell frequented an underground nightclub called the 44 Below, Batman sends Selina into the club to uncover evidence with surveillance equipment. Whilst they are gone, Annika disappears and Savage is murdered by the killer in a livestream, who identifies himself as "the Riddler". As Kyle breaks into Michell's home to steal back Annika's passport, Batman confronts her on the murder, though learns she isn't responsible. After realizing she knows the person he's looking for, Batman follows her and learns she is Annika Kosolov, Kyle's roommate and best friend. Infiltrating the Iceberg Lounge, Batman meets with Penguin to identify the woman, during which he meets waitress Selina Kyle. On it, he discovers evidence of Mitchell's association with the Falcone Crime Syndicate and a woman outside the Iceberg Lounge, a front run by the Penguin. Before being ordered to leave by Commissioner Savage, Batman finds a cryptograph on the scene and, with help from Alfred, learns that it is a clue to the location of a thumb drive. The body is left with a message directed towards Batman, leading Gordon to call him in to help investigate. 5.1 Transition from the Snyder/Affleck eraĭuring Halloween of Batman's second year, Mayor Don Mitchell Jr. This is partly because Haskell pushes you to write the code you should be writing in functional'ish languages anyway. Readers of this book have found that a facility for Haskell can translate into better F#, Scala, or Swift code. It can also serve as a bootstrap suitable for beginning to learn programming language and type theory. This book is designed to help you get to a place where you could begin applying Haskell to the everyday problems you want to solve. By working through exercises and returning to concepts you've seen earlier in the book, you develop a solid intuition for the functional style of programming. As your experience with Haskell deepens, you have a base from which to move to a deeper level of understanding. You may notice we mention something only briefly at first, then return to it over and over. Spaced repetition and iterative deepening are effective strategies for learning, and we rely on those techniques throughout the book. Our approach is based on experience teaching Haskell to many people from a variety of walks of life, and the approach pays off. So we've done something different from previous Haskell books. Haskell is difficult to teach effectively. Haskell is not a difficult language to use. Even experienced Haskellers have told us that they've found this book enriches their understanding of things they previously took for granted as magic or hadn't much thought about. If you are new to programming, you do not need to know another programming language before you start this book. Allen is known for Taxi (2004), Tears of the Sun (2003) and After Hours (1985). If you are an experienced programmer, we encourage you to forget what you might already know about programming and come at this course in Haskell with a beginner's mindset. The language is different enough from any you might've already tried that building up from the foundations will be less difficult and more enjoyable. Learning Haskell from the ground up is easier and works better - for both experienced hackers and people new to programming. We're writing this book because many have found learning Haskell to be difficult and it doesn't have to be. While there is nothing wrong with this design and it is ultimately quite functional, having an external rotating bezel does commit the watch to having an inherently rather sporty or tool-oriented overall aesthetic. While Nodus has produced dual-time watches before that used traditional three-handed movements paired with rotating 12-hour bezels, the Nodus Sector GMT is the brand’s first proper four-handed GMT watch, and it offers versatile aesthetics, highly respectable specifications, and surprisingly good finishing - all at a very compelling price point that even comes in below what Seiko charges for its own budget-friendly GMT watch.Ī lot of brands follow Rolex’s core blueprint for their GMT watch designs, which consists of a highly sporty package that uses an external rotating bezel to contain the obligatory 24-hour scale. Based in Los Angeles, California, Nodus is one of my favorite small-scale independent brands currently operating at a price point below a thousand dollars. While the Seiko 5 GMT that first showcased this new caliber was certainly a noteworthy release, the bigger news was the actual movement itself, as it meant that many of the industry’s favorite small-scale independent brands would soon be able to create affordable GMT watches of their own, without having to opt for a costly Swiss caliber and forcing a higher price point. One of the bigger game-changers of 2022 was Seiko creating a proper GMT movement with independently adjustable hands for the masses. You can also cut longer strips from the length of fabric, assuming you have a large enough piece of fabric. Many quilters like to cut their borders from the lengthwise grain because it adds stability to a quilt’s outer edges and perhaps less sag will occur if the quilt is hanging. The lengthwise grain runs parallel to the selvages and has less “give” or stretch than the crosswise grain. Her question is, “Does it matter if sashing pieces or borders are cut from the length of fabric or should they be cut from WOF?” I had a question from one of my readers that I would like to answer. What is their return and trade-in policy? How is their customer service? Do they know quilting vs. Make sure the dealer that you buy from has a good reputation. Other things to look for are a needle up/down option, a good walking foot or IDF (integrated dual feed) foot, at least one blanket stitch option for applique and an automatic needle threader/cutter is nice. It should manage a bulky seam intersection without pushing too hard and the stitches should be consistent in size. What does that mean? It should sew a straight line smoothly without veering off at an angle when stitching a 1/4″ seam. If I were looking for a new machine, I would look for good stitch quality first. A larger harp space equals easier quilting for large quilts. This is the space between the needle and the bulk of the machine. The only thing it is lacking is a larger harp space. It also has an amazing walking foot – the best I have ever seen (and I get to see a lot in my classes). I love the knee lift which raises the presser foot without having to use a hand which is really helpful when pivoting for machine applique. The stitches are beautiful and it’s easy to sew a straight line. I own two other sewing machines, but the Bernina is my favorite and most used. My Sewing Machine – what makes it special? But those parameters have to passed as pointers to an Array and a Structure. You can also pass the list of windows handles, and limit the tiling/cascading to a set of windows. You can also set the area where the windows should be Tiled / Cascaded. Minimum DLL Version : user32.dll, Minimum operating systems : Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0 If you specify the MDITILE_ZORDER flag, CascadeWindows arranges the windows in Z order.Ĭalling CascadeWindows causes all maximized windows to be restored to their previous size. This parameter can be one or more of the following values. The CascadeWindows function cascades the specified child windows of the specified parent window. Remarks : Calling TileWindows causes all maximized windows to be restored to their previous size. To get extended error information, call GetLastError. In addition, the puzzles were intended to be engaging while providing an opportunity for discussion and reasonable appropriate humor.Ĭrossword puzzles were made online at the Discovery School's puzzlemaker Web site (, accessed February 26, 2008). Crossword puzzles were introduced as a quick and effective way to reinforce critical concepts and essential vocabulary with the hope that the students would be better able to recall essential concepts. Various active learning methods including crossword puzzles have been incorporated into these courses in an attempt to increase understanding, learning, and retention. The hematology system is also the first clinical system in the second year (phase B) and students have not yet become proficient in organizing thought processes around clinical problem solving or fluent in system-specific vocabulary. This has posed a challenge in providing adequate practice and necessary repetition to reinforce key concepts. In the hematology system and the neoplasia section of undergraduate pathology courses for second-year medical students at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada, students are introduced to many new terms and concepts in a short time. Students have transferred this review strategy to other classes and the peer teachers have expressed an interest in it as an adjunct teaching tool.Ĭonclusions.-The judicious use of crosswords was useful for near transfer content and provided an opportunity to discuss and recall essential concepts, think critically, and collaborate in small groups. Written and informal comments indicated student enthusiasm for and a desire to participate in more of these exercises. Specifically, crosswords were found to be useful for identifying key concepts and vocabulary and for their collaborative and competitive aspects. Results.-Many students (37 of 39 in 2003 and 24 of 41 in 2004) indicated that crosswords were useful and contributed to their learning. Student perceptions of the value of crosswords for their learning were examined in 2003 (39 students) with a survey of yes or no responses and in 2004 (41 students) with a survey using questions with a 5-point Likert scale. Objective.-To determine student perceptions of the usefulness of crosswords as a quick and effective way to reinforce essential concepts and vocabulary.ĭesign.-Crosswords with ensured content validity built on a free Internet resource were completed by the students in collaborative and cooperative groups of 6 to 7 with a reward for the first group to successfully complete the puzzle. It is a challenge to provide adequate practice and necessary repetition to reinforce key concepts. Context.-Second-year medical students are introduced to many new terms and concepts in a short time frame in the hematology system and the neoplasia section of the undergraduate pathology course. For the first two types the wire will need to be thinned a good bit, but for the two with the shock absorber upper suspension it works without thinning or with minor thinning. The suspension wire for these can be made from the smallest Horolovar wire, 0.0018". When you get the movement out of the clock post some photos and I can assist in identification as well as photos of individual suspension parts. The third and fourth versions had the suspension fixed to a spring loaded shock absorbing lever located near the top of the movement I think one of these is likely what you have based on the "faux" upper pendulum part design. The second version used upper and lower blocks assembled with plates and screws but still suspended from the bottom of the movement (basically the escape on these first two is at the bottom of the movement). There were four suspension designs used that I know of, the first being suspended from the bottom of the movement and the wire being crimped into the central pendulum shaft as well as to the upper suspension point. The company then continued in business until (we think) 2005 when a visit by one of our contacts found the building shuttered, and their website "dead". The business was reported to be bankrupt in 2000 however a contact in 2003 found it to still be in business and making quartz "anniversary" clocks among others. This business continued, with the clock business operated mainly under the Kundo name and electronics business under Staiger or Kundo-Staiger. The company continued in operation making a lot of other industrial timing and electronic equipment until 1992 when they merged with Kieninger & Obergfell to form Kundo-Staiger. These mechanical clocks were made into the late 1960's when they moved over to quartz models. Anyone who may have references please let me know. I have not yet found out who designed the clocks, as this required someone with intimate knowledge of torsion clocks. In 1953 the production of these miniature torsion clocks was started, adapting a 30-hour alarm clock movement and using a disc pendulum mounted in the base of the clock (the "pendulum" seen above the base is purely decorative). This led to making plastic cases for small alarm and other novelty clocks for J. and working in electrical/electronic businesses. After WWII he rebuilt the company but changed its focus to making plastic moldings for all kind of apparatus, cases, etc. Werner Staiger (1909-1977) took over the company from his father in 1931 and continued that business, also making radio components. Georgen, Schwarzwald in 1898 and originally made industrial machinery components and hydraulics for machinery and other equipment. and then started pursuing information about the company. A couple years later I acquired a complete one in the U.S. I have been working with the Staiger clocks since 2001 when a very broken and incomplete one was given to me on a visit to Australia. Burkhard, you will find these small torsion clocks a little tricky to work with, especially the suspension units, but once they are set up they do run very well and keep excellent time if a Horolovar suspension spring is used. It only allows the user to choose between Always Hide or Always Show option during Reading Mode, which is kind of limited. The app is actually pretty good in terms of features and UI, but I didn’t quite like the way it handles the Status Bar. Let’s take RepliGo Reader as the first example. Some of the app designers/developers didn’t realize that the Status Bar is actually part of the System Bars, therefore if you decided to play around with it to get the maximum screen estate for your app, you have to do it right. Outdated Action Bar and low-res icons (UI/UX).In Android UI/UX tips #3, I have looked into some apps with the following UI/UX problems: What do you think? Do you like this redesign? Hit me with your comments/suggestions/critiques! I start sketching using my GUI Sketching Kit and transfer my sketching to the digital version, and it was pretty fun! It turns out to be pretty inspiring, and I am actually thinking to work with some great developers to make this design a real working app (Any taker? Let me know if there is such possibility!).Īnyway, below are all the mock ups for the redesign: So I started to play around with the app, and as expected, I got really frustrated using the app even though I am just trying to do some simple stuffs – a redesign is definitely required. It really surprised me when I found out the app is actually selling at $9.99 with this pretty dated and ugly user interface (and possibly bad user experience). If you want to see some comparison shots between the current version and my redesigned version, I have posted them in my G+, feel free to comment there as well!ĭuring the 25 billion app downloads celebration at Google Play Store, I noticed mSecure – Password Manager was in the 25 cents list, and after I reviewed the screenshots, I immediately buy it – not to use it (at this moment), but to redesign it. What do you think? Shot me in the comment box □ Therefore I tried to preserve the familiarity so the existing user will not have to re-learn the new UI while still providing a refreshed UI compliant to Android Design Guideline. And the objective is pretty straight forward: Make it a clean and nice app to be used by every user levels. Therefore a redesign is definitely required. The graph is not loaded at the proper size, old Android UI elements are still there, and the ugly legacy action overflow. The current Google Finance app is really ugly, which looks like a web-app rather than a native app. However, last Android Design in Action episode has put up a challenge to all Android developers/designers for some redesigned screens of any current apps, and that motivated me to continue working on this redesign despite of the really packed schedule. I have been thinking to redesign Google Finance app for a quite some time since I think all Google apps should have at least adapted to Holo Style UI, and I think there are still quite some number of users for the app (unfortunately not me because it doesn’t support share market of Malaysia), but I didn’t quite find the time for it. |
